About the Blogger

doodle avatarHello and welcome!

I’m Isabelle: she/her, Taiwanese-American, #ActuallyAutistic, demibisexual, nerdfighter, college student. Linguistics major (formerly pharmacy). Also, in case you’re wondering and because I’m an oversharer: Capricorn ♑ and INFJ-T — though according to 16Personalities the latter is about 50/50 with INFP-T, depending on the day.

My favorite genres are fantasy/sci-fi and contemporary (mostly YA and non-erotic NA), memoir/biography, and poetry; but I’ll read almost anything that sounds interesting. Though I don’t always finish; I DNF quite frequently.

I’m particularly interested in works that include diverse characters and/or address social issues — especially for the APID(A)BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and/or neurodivergent communities — so please let me know if you have any recs! (Ownvoices is ideal, but authors aren’t required to out themselves.)

Sometimes I make things (baking, crochet, fanfiction, etc) based on what I’ve read and loved recently. I’ve also been working on getting back into original writing (novels, short stories, poetry, etc.), so there will probably be some posts about that too.

About the Blog

A Brief History

This blog was launched as BookwyrmBites in November 2019, under which name/URL I published 150 posts. To be quite honest, though BookwyrmBites — while unique and hopefully memorable — never quite felt like me.

So while I was on hiatus during my first semester of pharmacy school, I gave a lot of thought to what I wanted to do. By December, I had decided to 1) rebrand the blog to something that fit me better and 2) switch majors.

At the end of 2019, I decided to make the transition to a new blog identity!

About the New Brand

The Nine-Tailed Fox is a relatively well-known figure in East Asian mythology. Since I love foxes, a good pun, and paying homage to my family’s heritage, the name seemed like a perfect match. (And I know, my current logo only has one tail; I’m still working on branding and graphics!) I modified the name primarily so that I could claim consistent URLs/usernames across the Internet; traditionally nine-tailed foxes are female anyway.

My content is still focused primarily on books and reading, secondarily on writing and productivity/lifestyle — but it’s important that this brand contains room to grow and change since it’s specific to me rather than a particular niche.

Nine Tales

To go with the name, I wanted to recognize nine narratives that have significantly influenced my life and identity.

(I wouldn’t call this my Top 9 Favorite Reads, but I guess you could consider it something like my Top 9 Memorable Reads?)

  1. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
  2. In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan
  3. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
  4. The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater
  5. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
  6. Matilda by Roald Dahl
  7. The Emelan cycle by Tamora Pierce
  8. The Inkworld trilogy by Cornelia Funke
  9. My main WIP, a coming-of-age novel about a pair of soulmates who are also mortal enemies
