Why did you start blogging and why have you kept blogging?

Honestly, I don’t remember what I was thinking all the way back in November 2018. I’d probably somehow stumbled upon the book blogging community through a tangentially related Google search (“I swear I’m a writer, not a serial killer!”) and immediately felt that, like the Little Mermaid, I wanna be where [my] people are. It would’ve felt natural, since I’d actually already been reading ARCs through Edelweiss for a while; I was writing reviews on Goodreads, so why not cross-post to a blog? And possibly I was also thinking about how, these days, everything you do feels like it should be leveraged for your resume, and at least blogging sounded fun.

As for why I’m still here? My parents didn’t raise no quitter. The more I blog and bloghop and read, the more ideas I get and the more amazing books/authors I want to share. Plus, now more than ever, it’s a way to stay connected to an online community, as well as something I can point to as an accomplishment when I’m feeling low.

What is your favorite type of post to write?

It really depends on my mood, as well as the metrics we’re using.

Discussion posts are great for venting and/or thinking through issues I’ve noticed, but they often come with anxiety that I’ll offend or upset someone. Memes and tags are quick and easy. Creative bookish content is perhaps the most fun, though it tends to get discouragingly lowest engagement.

What are your top three blog posts?

This is an unfair question, especially considering I’ve published over 200 posts and I really can’t pick just three personal favorites. So I’ll just go with the ones that have gotten the most views of all time:

  1. [Series Synopses] The Folk of the Air #1 & #1.5
  2. Guide: Formatting Posts Using Templates, Classic + Reusable Blocks
  3. Goodreads Tips & Tricks

Also, because I got curious, here are my most-viewed three posts of this year so far:

  1. [Series Synopses] The Folk of the Air #1 & #1.5
  2. Please Stop Commenting On How “Much” I Read
  3. I Made November Cakes & Labyrinth Cakes
What are some of your favorite things to do to relax?

[Insert obligatory joke about not understanding the concept of relaxing.] Though I’m no longer really active in any particular fandom, I still love curling up with a nice fluffy fanfic, or to rewatch old favorite anime series. Origami and crafts are great for keeping my hands busy but my mind relatively free. I like working on bullet journal spreads. Sometimes I’ll literally just stare out the window and zone out. And naps are generally nice.

What are your five favorite things?

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, obviously. I’m assuming this doesn’t include people, but I’ll include animals because otherwise it’s too hard. In no particular order:

  1. the color blue πŸ’™
  2. notebooks, whether fresh with possibility or already filled with my scribblings πŸ““
  3. dogs 🐢
  4. the combination of warm sunlight πŸ”† and a gentle breeze πŸƒ
  5. to sleep, perchance to dream (literally, not as a euphemism for death) 😴

What are your proudest blogging moments?

Any stats milestone (100 followers, 500 views, etc.), of course, but also when I get a comment that my post resonated with someone or they loved a book I recommended. And hitting publish on posts I’m unsure about and/or worked especially hard on, regardless of how they’re received.

What are your hobbies outside of blogging?

I often talk about writing original fiction, though lately I spend more time on piano, photography, and baking/cooking. When on-campus gyms are open, I enjoy swimming and rock climbing. Not sure it counts, but trying new things in general.

Describe your personality in three words.

Meticulous, sensitive, driven. (Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Slytherin?)

What are your top three pet peeves?
  1. “At least you never have to worry you’ll be taller than your boyfriend!”
  2. Being talked over and/or ignored.
  3. Chewing noises (or poor food hygiene). *shudders*

What’s something that your followers don’t know about you?

Hm, I feel like I’m pretty open, between tag posts, blog awards, and monthly updates. I can’t remember if I’ve shared that I was kind of a theater/drama kid β€” I got pretty great roles in class plays (every year of elementary school), participated in the school musical with less-great but decent roles (third through sixth grade), and even went to theater camp (summer vacations).

Though despite how much fun I had, it never crossed my mind as a possible career path. It’s easy to blame capitalism and conventional views on “success” … but I guess it also just didn’t really feel like my calling.

  1. Sometimes I’ll literally just stare out the window and zone out.< I felt that to my soul, I loved your answers, and honestly, you have some terrific discussion posts, so I’m glad you put them out there even if they are nerve-wracking to publish.

You’re definitely someone I look up to in the blogging community and I’m glad your parents didn’t raise no quitter lool

  2. Oof that pet peeve of not having to be taller than your bf is really on point, like people who say that are not helping! I loved your answers ❀
Thank you for tagging me, but I think I might have done this one in the past πŸ™‚
