The Anti-Valentine’s Day Tag

Why yes, I did do an anti-Valentine’s Day Tag last year. But that one was from Soph @ Bookwyrming Thoughts; I was also tagged by Haley @ The Caffeinated Reader, and Haley has some awesome questions.

Happy singles’ awareness day, y’all πŸ’–

.

Rules:

  • Link back to the blog that tagged you!
  • Answer the 10 anti-Valentine’s Day questions provided.
  • Come up with your own 10 anti-Valentine’s questions for blogs you tag.
  • Tag ten other bloggers to do the tag!

What’s your favorite romcom?

My first instinct was to ask “books or movies?” then I realized that a lot of my favorites are actually both! Though I have a preference for Crazy Rich Asians and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before in film form, whereas Love, Rosie is great in either medium. (But no, I can’t pick a single favorite.)

.

What’s your favorite tragedy? [Is there a ship that you indeed have to go down with, are you huddled in the corner crying by the end of their story?]

Even though His Dark Materials has been out for a while now and I think most of my friends have read it, I’ll avoid spoilers by saying it’s the main pairing who are separated at the end.

If you know, you know; if you don’t know, you should read the book.

.

Which minor character romances would you love to have their own story?

Knowing Cassandra Clare’s oeuvre, there’s probably definitely at least one story revolving around Aline Penhallow and Helen Blackthorn. But I don’t love them (or the Shadowhunters series, more accurately) so much that I’ve bothered to actually look for it.

That said, they’re really cute. I’m here for a sweet sapphic romance.

.

Your least favorite couple in all of literary history?

My go-to for this kind of question is still Ana and Christian Grey. Theirs is not a healthy relationship, people.

.

Is there a character [evil or maybe just amoral] that you think love could redeem?

Honestly, I’ve yet to see a truly convincing narrative where a villain or antihero is redeemed by love. (Unless we’re counting Elsa, I guess.) While I think it theoretically could be done in a story β€” and possibly in real life, though I’m wary about the emotional labor and moral implications involved β€” no one in particular comes to mind

.

Which relationship do you think would do better by breaking up?

So I never actually finished reading The Paper Magician series, but I assume Ceony ends up with her teacher/mentor? I was opposed to the pairing from the beginning β€” in addition to the inherently problematic power dynamic, I didn’t feel like there was foundation for anything beyond a professional working relationship; it was like it just came out of nowhere.

(I think I’m still a bit salty about this series because the worldbuilding had so much potential, but I just couldn’t get past the romantic storyline.)

.

What character makes you want to shove them off a bridge because of their behavior in a relationship?

HEATHCLIFF. BELLA SWAN. All three of the Wicked Saints protagonists, honestly.

I really can’t pick just one.

.

Quick you can only save one person from your favorite couple, which one do you save? [think of Titanic but with a tinier piece of wood, WE ALL KNOW LEO COULD HAVE LIVED KATE!]

If it’s actually a Titanic situation, it’s gonna be Annabeth Chase, because Percy Jackson will definitely be fine in the ocean.

If it’s not literal, it’s still gonna be Annabeth. I spent way too long trying to justify this, and finally decided to go with “just because.” Sorry, Percy.

.

What’s your favorite non-romantic book?

It’s definitely not a book I would recommend to everyone, but I adore My Name Is Mina by David Almond. Told in journal form, it’s just so imaginative and wholesome and memorable; it’s the epitome of childlike wonder and it reminds me to appreciate the little things in life.

.

This isn’t book related but how much do you love 50% off chocolates? β€” Shoves a whole box into mouth β€” Just asking for a friend.

Yes. All the yes πŸ˜‰

I tag:
Ren Strange β€’ Meeghan β€’ Olivia-Savannah β€’ Charvi β€’ Heather β€’ Caitlin β€’ Jamsu β€’ Kristina β€’ Nicoline β€’ Alys
and, as always, anyone else who wants to participate!

My Questions

  1. Spin the Bottle, Truth or Dare, or Never Have I Ever?
  2. Describe your One True Pairing in three words so that someone else could guess who they are. (No proper nouns, that would be too easy!)
  3. If you could pick any romance trope to determine your future love life, which would it be?
  4. What is the earliest pairing you remember getting invested in?
  5. What does your ideal self-love date look like?
  6. Which one of your OTP plans big romantic gestures and which one forgets their anniversary?
  7. What are your go-to feel good stories? (books, movies, TV shows, podcasts, etc. are all fair game)
  8. If you could do away with any romantic and/or sexual term, what would it be and why?
  9. Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, or white chocolate?
  10. Pick a theme song for one of your favorite pairings.
