2019 Reading Challenges

I’m trying to limit the number of challenges I enter, at least for the start of the year; I’ve only committed to three five thus far. But Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction made a masterlist of 2019 reading challenges and they all look amazing, so I may jump on some more later in the year!

Goodreads 2019 Reading Challenge

Progress: 245/150 books
COMPLETED 8/22/2019

This will be my third year entering (and hopefully winning!) the Goodreads challenge; I’ve increased my goal both times I’ve done it so far, so although I’m starting lower than I achieved last year, I’ll reevaluate during the summer and raise it if it seems reasonable. It’s the easiest challenge because all you have to do is finish books. Rereads, ARCs, manga, textbooks: everything’s fair game.

UPDATE Aug 2019: Though I reached my goal this month, I’ve decided not to increase it since the fall semester is fast approaching and I don’t feel the need to add to my own stress.

Novel Knight’s 2019 Beat the Backlist Challenge

Progress: 149/100 books
COMPLETED 9/30/2019

This will be my first year participating in Beat the Backlist! (If you didn’t already know, “backlist” refers to the books that were released before this year: so for 2019, that means published in 2018 or earlier). You can also submit the titles you read for Hogwarts House points โ€” where are all my fellow Ravenclaws at? ๐Ÿฆ…

Because I’m an overachiever, I’ll be using the Epic Bingo Board too!

BINGO COMPLETED 12/26/2019

2019 Meeghan Readsโ€™ Reading Bingo

COMPLETED 5/21/2019

Meeghan came up with a pretty cool bingo board, and I just couldn’t resist joining in on this one (oops). That said, the titles I use for this bingo board will also be applied towards other challenges as applicable โ€” so ultimately it’s not a ton more reading to add on.

Anyone who knows me at all will know that I’m a chronic overachiever, so we’re all in and aiming for the Bengali tiger (51+ books by the end of the year)! But as to how many I’ll actually manage, we’ll have to wait and see ๐Ÿ˜…

If you’re curious to see which Asian authors I’ve read this year, head over to the post linked above!

Progress: 58/51 books
COMPLETED 8/10/2019

Badge: Bengali tiger (51+ books)

Asian Lit Bingo 2019

Progress: 25/25 books
COMPLETED 5/29/2019

To honor Asian American Heritage Month, I hopped into another reading challenge! You can check out my sign-up post for my bingo board, TBR, and links to my reviews.

POPSUGAR 2019 Reading Challenge

Progress: 50/50 books
COMPLETED 12/9/2019

My first PopSugar challenge was in 2015, which I failed spectacularly, but I’ve won the past two years. While there’s some repeat from previous prompts, this list still pushes me to read books I wouldn’t otherwise, so it’s staying for now. I didn’t plan the 50-book incremental decreases for this reading challenge post, it just worked out that way, but I’m digging it ๐Ÿ˜‚ (You can’t really tell anymore because I put the bingos and #YARC in the middle of the post; but the progression exists for my original three challenges โ€” Goodreads, Beat the Backlist, and PopSugar โ€” and I enjoyed it.)

Which challenges are you participating in? Do you have any titles already picked out to fulfill certain prompts? Let me know in the comments!

    1. I did hesitate to add on the backlist challenge, but a lot of books I’ll be reading for Goodreads and Popsugar will also be backlist, so it’s just a matter of keeping track ๐Ÿ˜‰ I think it’s worth a shot, especially since the House competition and bingo seem really fun!

    1. a lot of books will fulfill both (unless youโ€™re reading mostly new releases), so Iโ€™d encourage you to go for it!

  1. GR’s challenge is exactly why I’m staying with it rather than joining any others, LOL. I like being able to set my own pace and books to read rather than certain requirements because I have a huge reading challenge commitment issue. I think Pop Sugar is one I joined in 2017 but failed spectacularly, whoops.

    1. commitment issues are a big mood tbh. this might be my last year doing popsugar because their prompts are awkwardly specific but at the same time there’s a lot of repetition from year to year, so you’re not missing out on much lol

    1. good luck to you too! some totally unsolicited advice: draw from your tbr first (or else you’re gonna end up with 50 more books to read like I did my first try ๐Ÿ˜…), and if you’re ever looking for titles for a specific prompt there’s an ultimate popsugar challenge goodreads group ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. that’s the intention, but I think it actually depends! I saw someone else’s post where they said they actually had the easiest time finding books for the advanced prompts ๐Ÿค”

      2. I think they just said in general! but I know for me cli-fi was one of the first ones I found. just good timing lol

  2. Wow, you have some amazing challenges in your bag for 2019! I’m participating in the BTB challenge too and I hope we both achieve our goals ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. Goodluck!

I donโ€™t feel that im ready enough for challenges ๐Ÿ˜‚ (apart of the goodreads one, as its fairly easy) โ€” I had joined beat the backlist 2018 thinking ยซย ah! Shall be easy, I dont own new novelsย ยป… and then failed because I discovered the lovely world of netgalleyโ€™s arcs… oops ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ

    1. yeah thatโ€™s definitely what worries me most about Beat the Backlist, all the ARCs I still have to finish ๐Ÿ˜… Iโ€™m hoping it will keep me from requesting too many more!
